USER’S RIGHTS IN THE HEALTH AND SOCIAL SERVICES NETWORK
Anyone who receives care or services from the health and social services network is entitled to specific rights. Know how to uphold your rights and assert them in case of dissatisfaction.
What are your rights ?
Taking into account the functionning of legislative disposals and regulatory measures as well as human resources and material and financial resources of the concerned establishment, here are your rights :
- To be treated with courtesy, fairness and understanding with respect for your dignity, autonomy and according to your needs and safety.
- To be aware of health ans social services a source of assistance in information.
- To receive personalized and in a safe manner adequate services that are scientifically, humanly and socially appropriate.
- The right to choose the professional establishment from which you want to receive care.
- To obtain the care that your state of health requires; any person who’s life or integrity is in danger has the right to adequate services.
- The right to be informed of the state of your health and well-being to be fully aware of the different options avalaible and the risk and consequences of each decision before consenting to treatment; the same applies to any incident which occurs during a service provision susceptible to unpredictable consequences that may impact your health condition or well-being.
- Consentment has to be given to receive or refuse the care, or approval to provide it, including tests, samples, treatments or any other intervention; user’s consent has to be given or refused, where appropriate, or if so, by a legal representative or by a court.
- Participate in any decision affecting your state of health or welfare including the modification of your intervention plan or for individual services.
- Be accompanied or assisted by the person of your choice when you require information or for undertaking steps regarding a service provided by an establishment.
- Representation is required if you are a minor or a person of full age but unfit.
- Must live in a health establisment as required by her or his condition.
- The right to receive services in english if you express yourself fluently in english.
- The right to a recourse against an establishment, their administrators or personal members due to a professional fault or other; such a recourse cannot be waived.
- The right to access your record , which is confidential.
- Advance medical directives.
- Receive end-of-life care.
