What is a Private Senior’s Residence
Commonly referred to as a PSR and intended for retired independent and semi-independent seniors aged 65 and over. This residential complex rents rooms and units and offers different services such as meals, housekeeping and provides care.
Good to know : in Quebec, the trade name PSR can only be used by an owner having a conformity certificate which guarantee that the residence complies to certain safety requirements and provides quality services.
What are your rights as a resident in a PSR ?
As a tenant in a private senior’s residence you have rights that protect you :
- The right to be treated with courtesy, dignity, and respect by both the management and the staff of the PSR
- Be able to move freely in your rental unit and common areas
- Have a well maintained unit and repaired when needed
- Provide a safe and secure living environment
- The right to receive all care and services outlined in your lease
- Benefit of quality health and care services that complies with de government certification
Do I have to comply in signing a lease in order to stay in a PSR?
A lease in a PSR is more than a simple formality, it’s a contract that defines most of your rights and responsibilities. Also it outlines the services that will be provided to you. Therefore, your signature is required.
A PSR lease includes three documents :
- The lease
- Annex 6 which details the services and costs
- Internal regulations of the PSR
